Chris Chuckran – Chief Executive Officer
Chris received his B.S. in Bioengineering from Rice University and is currently a 2nd year graduate student in the Immunology PhD program at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. His research focuses on overcoming barriers to effective cancer immunotherapy through destabilization of suppressive immune subsets. Chris first dove into consulting as a member of Hitachi Consulting Corporation following his undergraduate studies and is excited to utilize the experience he gained in that role while in Pittsburgh. Outside of the lab, you are most likely to find Chris enjoying the outdoors with camera in hand, training for his next track race, or relaxing at a local coffee shop with a good book or new music.
Emily Russell – Chief Operating Officer
Emily is a PhD candidate in Human Genetics at the University of Pittsburgh’s School of Public Health. She is exploring the genetics of type 2 diabetes in a unique founder population of Samoans. When she isn’t sitting behind a computer analyzing data, she enjoys listening to live local music, practicing yoga, and obsessing over old houses in Pittsburgh’s East End.
Song-My Hoang – Chief Human Resources Officer
Song-My is a 3rd year PhD candidate in the Molecular Pharmacology program at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. Her research focuses on understanding factors that regulate the Alternative Lengthening of Telomeres (ALT) pathway. Outside of the lab, you can find Song-My running on the streets of Pittsburgh with an eye out for new restaurants and fun activities to do in the city. She is currently in search for the best tacos in town. Song-My also enjoys camping, hosting board game nights, and obsessing over corgis.
Jillian Weeks – Chief Professional Development Officer
Jillian is a 4th-year PhD student in the Center for Neuroscience at the University of Pittsburgh. Her research focuses on nicotine behavioral pharmacology in vulnerable populations with the goal of informing tobacco regulatory policy. In addition to her research and work with 4RS, Jill coordinates a neuroscience outreach program for area middle and high schoolers and spends her downtime cuddling her fluffy orange cat, embroidering, and exploring Pittsburgh's many craft breweries.
Sherin David – Chief Marketing Officer
Sherin is a PhD candidate in the Molecular Genetics and Developmental Biology program. The focus of her research is in developing therapies to restore fertility in male pediatric cancer patients. She’s worked with 4RS since 2017. She loves to spend her free time networking, exploring new restaurants and cafes around Pittsburgh, traveling and hiking with her Basset Hound, Cece.
Rebecca Gerth – Chief Financial Officer
Rebecca is a PhD candidate of Bioengineering with a concentration in Neural Engineering at the University of Pittsburgh. Her research focuses on the communication of information between the frontal and parietal cortices, specifically during visual perception and the planning of eye movements. Outside of the lab, Rebecca can often be found cycling or running around Pittsburgh. She also enjoys practicing yoga, baking, and exploring Pittsburgh's flourishing restaurant scene.
Ethan Bassin – Vice President Business Development
Ethan is a third year PhD candidate in the Immunology program at the University of Pittsburgh. He received a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania with a major in Bioengineering and a minor in Engineering Entrepreneurship. Ethan’s general research interest is in using biomaterials to manipulate the immune system, and his current project involves regulatory T cells (Tregs), microparticles, and type 1 diabetes. In his free time Ethan enjoys trying new restaurants, ice skating, competing in fantasy football, and listening to a good podcast.
Dylan Royston – Vice President Business Development
Dylan is a 5th year PhD candidate in Bioengineering at the University of Pittsburgh. His research focuses on using noninvasive neuroimaging and intracortical recordings to study human motor control and the relationship between neural activity across spatial scales. When not in lab, Dylan can often be found walking his husky through the entirety of Frick Park, attempting to perfect his chili recipe, or learning to develop virtual reality environments.
